San Sebastian is perfectly connected by rail, road, and rail with the main cities in Spain and other towns in the Basque Country, and it is also connected by road with Europe and through France.
- BUS
If you need to travel by bus to other parts of Gipuzkoa, the Basque Country, the rest of Spain or abroad, there are numerous intercity bus routes that will take you to your destination for a reasonable price.
There are urban buses to take you to the different areas of the city, running every 6 to 30 minutes, depending on the time of day and the route.
- TRANSPORT cards
Valid cards for travelling on Dbus are all personalized Mugi and Lurraldebus cards, the transferable Mugi card, the San Sebastian Card and the Basque Card.
Mugi cards can be purchased at newsagents and authorized tobacconists (consult the network of authorized premises), and the San Sebastian Card and the Basque Card, at the city’s tourist information points.
With Dbus you only validate on boarding the bus, and never on alighting.
- PLANE
Donostia-San Sebastián airport is in Hondarribia, around 20 km from the city. It offers several flights a day to Madrid and Barcelona.
There are other airports close to the city, all within a radius of between 50 km and 100 km: Loiu (Bilbao), Biarritz, Noaim (Pamplona) and Vitoria. They offer flight connections to major cities around Spain and Europe.

La Estación del Norte’ is the name of the railway station in San Sebastián. The only long-distance passenger railway company operating in Spain is RENFE. Donostia-San Sebastián offers rail links to major cities around Spain and also Paris, the French capital.
The regional rail network to areas close to the city is run by a company called EUSKOTREN. These lines link Donostia-San Sebastián with nearby cities such as Hendaye (France), Lasarte and Bilbao.

To keep traffic away from the city centre, San Sebastián has a series of park-and-ride schemes, where you can park your car free of charge and take public transport. These facilities are known as ‘aparcamientos disuasorios’.

From Monday to Saturday, parking throughout almost all the city is regulated by a series of tariffs that vary depending on the length of stay and the area of the city. This Regulated Parking is known by the name of O.T.A and tickets can be bought at the vending machines dotted around the streets.

San Sebastián promotes cycling as a means of urban transport, which ties in with the strategic objective of achieving effective sustainable development and helping to protect the environment. There are numerous cycling lanes throughout the city. In addition, the city has an brand-new free bike sharing system (DBizi), offering free access to bikes at pick-up and drop-off sites throughout the city. Although it is a frequent practice in other cities around the world, in Donostia-San Sebastián you cannot hail a taxi anywhere in the city. There are specific taxi ranks which you must use.
